The Kannur-model of using alternative materials for flex sheets has not found takers elsewhere in the State, says Harish Vasudevan, the amicus curiae in the case.
The use of flex sheets raises environmental as well as road safety concerns. Kannur has shown the way by banning the use of such material. The district has also demonstrated that alternative materials such as cloth could be used, says Mr. Vasudevan, a lawyer and an environmental campaigner. No such hazardous materials were used for publicity during the recent inauguration of the Kannur airport.
One could see advertisement material and boards on signal posts, which could lead to road accidents. Electric and telephone posts were used for displaying such boards, which could imperil the safety of commuters, he said.
