Baggy clothes, sunglasses and a flat-brim cap: Police hunt for ‘fake pensioner’ accused of holding up a string of pharmacies with a knife and demanding medication

  • A baggy-clothed man who allegedly held up two chemists is wanted by police
  • Police allege the man held up two chemists at knifepoint within the last week
  • Footage released by police shows both incidents where a man holds up the staff
  • No one was injured during the robberies but the crook made off with medication
  • Detectives believe the same man impersonated a pensioner during both heists

A manhunt is currently underway for a baggy-clothed man who allegedly impersonated a pensioner to hold up a string of chemists at knifepoint.

Police started the investigation after the impostor allegedly held up a chemist on Mill Street in Nambour on the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday.

Footage released by Queensland Police on Wednesday shows the alleged bandit enter the chemist and produce a knife before demanding staff handover pills.

When the chemist staff handed over the box of medication, the man put the knife away before walking out of the store and fleeing the scene.

In the video, the man was wearing a blue, green, black and white striped loose-fitting shirt, black pants and a baseball cap with the letters L.A. on the front.

He was also filmed carrying a purple reusable shopping bag at the time.

No one was injured during the heist and police believe the alleged crook may be the same person who held up another chemist on Rawson Street at Caloundra on January 4.

Additional footage released by Queensland police shows a man of similar appearance brazenly walking up to the counter and demanding staff handover pills.

The man in the second video was filmed wearing equally loose-fitting attire as the man in the first video, consisting of a fawn-coloured trench coat and black beanie.

When the pharmacist handed over the pills, the man put it into a purple bag - similar to the Nambour robbery - before leaving the chemist and fleeing in a white van.

Following the recent heist at the Nambour chemist, detectives are urging anyone with information about either robberies to come forward.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 175cm tall and is believed to be in his 50s or 60s, with a solid build and brown hair.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
