The Thiruvalla bypass project, which was disrupted two years ago, is soon to get a fresh lease of life. Works Minister G.Sudhakaran will relaunch the project work at a function at Thiruvalla town on Friday afternoon.

Local MLA Mathew T.Thomas said the bypass work was disrupted owing to certain flaws in design and the delay in acquiring a few cents of land required for the project.

The work on the ₹33-crore project was launched by the then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in December 2014, with a target to complete the project by October 2016.

Though the original proposal was to earth-fill a 750-metre stretch of the bypass near Ramanchira, engineers suggested a flyover there, linking Chilanka Junction on the Thiruvalla-Mallappally road with Ramanchira on MC Road.

Mr. Thomas said the World Bank approved the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) proposal to redesign the Ramanchira stretch of the bypass at a revised estimate of ₹37 crore.

He said the KSTP even carried out a soil study in the region.

An expert team of the KSTP and the Public Works Department, accompanied by the MLA, visited the bypass site on Thursday.

Darlin C. Dicruz, KSTP Chief Engineer; M.K. Varghese, chief executive consultant; C.Rakesh, executive engineer; and representatives of contractors were part of the expert team.
