Man ordered to stand trial for attempt on elderly woman's life

A Victorian man will stand trial five years after his alleged attempted murder of an elderly woman in her Melbourne home.

Magistrate Lance Martin on Thursday ordered the man to stand trial in the Supreme Court on five charges, including an attempt on the life of the woman in her 70s at her south-east Melbourne home on May 2013.

The woman told the court her attacker had pinned her to the ground and cut her throat with a knife.

The accused will now face a directions hearing in the Supreme Court later this month.

Police allege the woman's assailant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is the same man accused of murder in a separate case.
