When detectives attended at the scene a short time later, they discovered the home's garage door had been blasted with more than a dozen pellets.

Witnesses told the publication they heard two very loud bangs about 9.10am this morning before seeing a silver sedan allegedly speed off.

Shortly afterwards, a car matching the description of the sedan was found dumped and torched in the Whitfords Catholic Church car park about a kilometre away.

Locals in the area said they saw the silver sedan speed into the carpark before the driver got out and made a getaway in a grey ute.

'It was pretty fast and there were kids here so I thought why are you gonna be speeding like that,' the witness told 9News.

The local man said after about 10 minutes smoke started coming out from the car.
