The accused have been identified as Rashmi Paunikar and Prajwal Bhaisare (21).
Sources said Rashmi and Shekhar got married six years ago and have a three-year-old son Kunj. Rashmi got in touch with Prajwal six months ago on social media and started dating him.
Police said from the last few months, Shekhar had been drinking too much and used to thrash Rashmi suspecting her infidelity. A fed up Rashmi decided to kill Shekhar two months ago.
Four days before the incident, Rashmi planned to kill Shekhar with the help of Prajwal. On Tuesday night, Shekhar, who works at a garments shop in Mahal, had a few drinks, ate dinner and slept. Rashmi then called Prajwal and asked him to bring a blade and motorcycle.
After some time, Prajwal reached Rashmi’s home and the duo strangled Shekhar to death. They then took his body to a nearby garden and made cuts on his wrist with the blade. The accused also hit Shekhar with a stone on his head before heading home.
On Wednesday morning, one of the passersby saw Shekhar’s body and called on police control room. Cops rushed to the spot and Rashmi too reached after sometime.
Cops already had a suspicion that it was a murder as there were no blood spots at the scene. Police then started interrogating Rashmi, who spilled the beans.
The accused will be produced before the court on Thursday for procuring PCR.
