A 19-year-old Jawaharlal Nehru University student was arrested for allegedly stalking and harassing his senior, the police said on Tuesday. The victim and the accused are both undergraduate students, the police said.
The police control room had received a call at 2 p.m. on Monday against a man who had entered the girls’ hostel in JNU.
A police team went to the hostel, where the victim gave a written complaint. The woman claimed the accused had been stalking and threatening her, the police said.
Case registered
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Devendra Arya said an FIR under Sections 354 D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC has been registered at Vasant Vihar police station.
The victim has recorded her statement under Section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure before a Magistrate.
The victim alleged that the accused had been following her and also trying to talk to her.
She ignored his advances in the beginning but then he entered her hostel, the victim said.
Following this, she called the police.
“The accused, who is from Kashmir, was arrested from his hostel room in JNU. He has been released on bail. His family has been informed about the incident,” said Mr. Arya.
A thorough investigation has been ordered into the matter, the police added.
