New Delhi, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani said on Wednesday that gender justice is part of India’s cultural discourse and it needs to be reinforced.
‘Women today are performing duties alongside their male counterparts in different vocations across the country,’ Ms Irani said in her address at Raisina Dialogue here.
The Minister stressed need for maintaining gender parity in all aspects of society. She informed that girls are outperforming boys in every competitive examination. She spoke at length about the participation of women scientists in India’s missile and space programmes.
The Textiles Minister also drew the attention towards participation of women in India’s struggle for Independence.
In reply to a question on the fate of law to provide for 33 per cent representation to women in Parliament and State legislatures, the Textiles Minister said the Government was in favour of passage of the law.
The Minister said that her party always supported the women’s reservation bill.
