ALLAHABAD: Visitors to the Kumbh-2019 would not be allowed to carry licensed weapons with them in and around the Mela ground.
The decision comes five days after a Juna Akhara saint complained to the Mela police that three armed persons had threatened him of dire consequences on sector no 14 of the Mela ground. Police said that they are yet to ascertain why the saint was threatened. If anyone is found violating the rules, Mela police would confiscate the weapon as well as his/her licence.
Additional SP (security-Kumbh Mela) Ashutosh Mishra, said, "If anyone wants to bring a licensed weapon to the Mela ground or an akhara, the user must inform the police. He/she would have to submit an application citing their reasons for carrying a weapon along with a copy of licence."
Meanwhile, Mishra said that the gunner who had lodged a complaint against expelled saint Sudhir Makkad aka 'Golden Baba' had approached the police recently after he was chased by three unidentified miscreants.
The security personnel had lodged a complaint against Makkad for allegedly threatening him with a fake theft case after the former had refused to accompany the former Juna Akhara seer to Haridwar, as it was outside his duty area.
"Mela police are on high alert and have decided to cap the use licensed weapons on the premises," Mishra added.
