Zoya Akhtar’s next, Gully Boy, seems to be following in the footsteps of many movies which showcase hip hop culture, such as Straight Outta Compton, Notorious, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Friday and 8 Mile.
The trailer, which released on Wednesday, shows Ranveer Singh playing a young rapper born in a slum who seeks to make his way out with his music, and Alia Bhatt as a Muslim girl who is fighting the strictures forced upon her. The movie is based on real-life rappers Divine and Naezy, who started out in the underground music scene. The trailer already has more than a million views.
The music, by Ankur Tewari, promises to be a one-of-a-kind experience. The film also stars Kalki Koechlin and Vijay Raaz, and is scheduled to release on February 14.
