Porsche Picks Out The Five Best Interior Highlights Of New 911

People frequently poke fun at Porsche 911 designers for having an easy life as apparently all they have to do is draw the same car over and over again.

Obviously, that’s an exaggerated way of looking at things and Porsche’s stubbornness to stick to the original 911‘s iconic shape is perfectly justified. After all, the customers wouldn’t have it any other way.

While there are limits to what designers can change on the exterior of a new 911, they have significantly more leeway when it comes to the cabin. That’s pretty obvious with the latest Porsche 911 (992) and this new “Top 5” official video proves it. Porsche’s Director of Interior Design, Ivo van Hulten, talks about his five favorite interior highlights of the all-new 911 and on this occasion we get to learn some interesting things about the approach to the cabin.

For example, the brief was to achieve a perfect balance between analog and digital and one can see that in the way the instrument panel and the center console look. The instrument cluster’s five round gauges (which are complete once again) combine a central analog rev counter with four digital units.

Integrated seamlessly in the rev counter is another digital screen while analog details are scattered throughout the cabin: the five switches with haptic feedback located under the central infotainment screen and the small, jewel-like PDK selector.

Designers also wanted to give the 911’s dashboard a more pronounced horizontal layout to remind of early 911 generations and they did that by adopting an offset center console. It’s just one of many examples that demonstrates how the old can be reconciled with the new in a coherent package.
