P&W failures lower in India than globally: DGCA
TNN | Jan 10, 2019, 03:19 ISTMUMBAI: Justifying the clean chit to snag-prone Pratt and Whitney engines — used in A320 Neo aircrafts — the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Wednesday said that they haven’t had as many instances of engines shutting down mid-flight as those flying globally.
India has close to 100 Pratt and Whitney engine-powered A320 Neos, out of which IndiGo operates 66 and GoAir 30. The mid-flight engine failures on A320 Neos in India has averaged 0.02 per 1,000 engine flight hours. This is considerably lower than the stringent global benchmark of 0.05 rate per 1,000 engine flight hours, said DGCA in a statement. India has had 12 mid-flight engine failures since March 2016.
