Even as some farmers of Vemulaghat in Toguta mandal have accepted the government offer after fighting for more than 945 days seeking implementation of Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act – 2013 (LA Act- 2013), labourers of Toguta are getting ready for another round of fight with the government.
Their contention was that they were not being offered any compensation under the R&R package which was mandatory as per the LA Act-2013.
On Tuesday, they stalled heavy machinery from working near the fields. They urged the authorities to take action against those violating orders issued by the High Court.
In a memorandum submitted to authorities on Tuesday, the farm labourers said the court has directed the government not to commence works till R&R benefits were extended to them.
‘Violating orders’
“The authorities at mandal-level have been continuing work with police help despite court orders. This was violation of court orders and we brought this issue to your notice on October 22 and November 11, 2018. So far no action has been taken against them,” said the labourers in the memorandum.
Informing that lands in survey numbers 944, 945 and 946 are being damaged by filling the black soil, they have alleged that cases are being filed against them if they stop work. “The contractor came today again with heavy machinery to stop work. If action against him is not taken within 48 hours, we will be forced to approach the court again for violations,” said the labourers in the memorandum.
This was signed by 29 farm labourers who had approached the court in the past.
“We have decided to fight for justice till the end. We have no financial support from others and are mobilising funds to meet the expenses,” Ch. Naveen, one of the agitators told The Hindu
