New homes for Tulsi Niketan residents?

Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is working on a plan to relocate the 16,000 residents of Tulsi Niketan whose flats have been declared “unsafe” for living. The development agency had issued eviction notices to the residents in December.
Kanchan Verma, GDA vice-chairperson, told TOI on Tuesday that as per the plan, the development authority intends to construct highrises in nearby parks and then shift the residents there. “Once the residents are relocated, the GDA would demolish Tulsi Niketan and develop the area as parks,” she said.

In Tulsi Niketan, there are 2,008 EWS and 284 LIG flats.

Meanwhile, Verma came down heavily on GDA committee which was entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out a survey of Tulsi Niketan to ascertain the type of ownership rights of the residents. The committee is said to have submitted the report without undertaking physical survey of the colony.

“The committee has been asked to conduct the survey properly and has been given time till January to submit the report. I have also instructed the committee to include two members from RWA to ensure error-free physical survey of the colony,” said Verma.

The GDA had earlier hired Jamia Milia to ascertain the structural safety of the flats of Tulsi Niketan, which will submit its report by mid-February.
