Sanjay Yadav | TNN | Jan 9, 2019, 07:39 ISTGURUGRAM: A 55-year-old man riding a bicycle on MG Road was run over by an i10 car on Monday morning. It was the second fatal accident on the city’s roads in a few hours; on Sunday night, a youth was crushed to death by a bus speeding down the wrong side near the main entry of the NSG campus in Manesar.
Police said the driver of the car had been identified and would be arrested but did not reveal the person’s identity. An FIR was registered at Sector 29 police station.
The MG road accident happened opposite Plaza Mall near the metro station around 7am. Jailal, who was originally from Nepal and was employed at a workshop for Skoda cars in Sector 14, was on his way there when the i10 ran over him and drove off. A passerby noted the registration number of the car and informed police. Jailal was rushed to Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Jailal lived with his family in Nathupura village. “We are in shock. He was planning to get my sister married soon and wanted to retire after that. If the accused driver had stopped and taken him to hospital, he would have been saved,” said his son Suraj. The FIR was registered under sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC. “We want strict action against the driver,” said Jyoti, Jailal’s daughter.
On Sunday night, 25-year-old Sonu, a resident of Deoria in UP, was crossing the road when he was mowed down by the bus, which hit him from behind, according to a police complaint filed by his brother Jagmohan. Sonu died on the spot. An FIR has been registered against the unidentified bus driver under sections 279 and 304A of the IPC at Manesar police station. “We are trying to arrest the driver,” said ASI Krishan Kumar, the investigating officer.
