RAJKOT: If everything goes according to the plan, senior cops in Rajkot will soon be able to track cases on real-time basis and give necessary instructions to the investigation officer using a mobile phone app. The Rajkot city police has designed the app that will be installed on cellphones of all cops. It will provide information about crime in the city in real time. The application is currently in testing phase and is used by some cops.

It will be useful in assigning work to investigators and filing of action taken report on pending investigation. This application was conceptualized by Rajkot police commissioner (CP) Manoj Agarwal, who is the brains behind the information technology (IT) platform for police like Egujcop and CSITMS (City Surveillance and Intelligent Traffic Management) project. Currently, the data of eGujcop is being integrated with the mobile application. The access to the application will be restricted at different levels. However, the commissioner of police (CP) and joint commissioner of police (JCP) will have full access. Every user, including, police inspector, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), deputy commissioner of police (DCP), JCP and CP will be given username and password. According to police, as soon as the offence gets registered at a police station, a short detail of the offence including name of the complainant and accused will be available on the mobile app.

The CP and JCP can get information on how many cases get registered every day in each police station and monitor their progress. In cases of missing persons or children, real time report on how many were found will be generated. The app will also show pending work of the officers at various levels. The mobile app will also provide live updates about traffic offences like how many challans were issued on the spot and through the eye-way project. Agarwal said, “There is data on eGujcop but an officer is not always in office with access to the computer. Getting real-time data is the need of the hour. This app will solve that problem and make monitoring of investigation easier.” He added, “It is still under testing stage and within few months will be ready to be implemented in full and make a cop’s job easy.”

Currently, the app has been developed on the Android platform, but soon will be available on other platforms as well.
