AGRA: A 20-year-old youth, who was traveling on a train without a ticket, was crushed under the wheels of the locomotive when he jumped from the coach in panic after spotting the train ticket examiner (TTE). The incident took place near Narauli Bridge in Mathura district on Wednesday morning.
The victim has been identified as Sanju, a resident of Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh. He was heading to Ludhiana with his friend for a daily wage job.
According to an official, Sanju panicked when he saw the TTE and jumped off the train. He said that fellow passengers then pulled the emergency brake and halted the train.
For nearly two hours, the victim was trapped under the wheels of the train, the official added.
“As soon as he was pulled out, we rushed him to a nearby hospital, but the doctors declared him brought dead,” station house officer of Mathura Government Railway Police (GRP), Shiv Kumar Singh, told TOI.
Narrating the ordeal, victim’s friend Mansukh, who also goes by the first name, said, “We didn’t buy tickets as we had no money. I and Sanju decided to part ways as soon as we entered the train to avoid getting caught by the TTE. When the train stopped, I stepped outside to check only to find Sanju trapped under the wheels.”
