PUNE: The strict implementation of helmet rule in Pune, which came into effect from January 1, has acted not only as a catalyst for sales but also increased demand for helmet repairs.
Chetan Pacharne, a helmet vendor, said, “The recent implementation of helmet rule in the city has not only increased sales of helmets but also demand for helmet repairs. On an average, we are getting 15 helmets every day whereas earlier the number was really less.”
He further said, “Since our shop is near the traffic signal, there is an increase in the number of customers.”
Jagdish Shinde, who works at Champion Sports, said, “The recent helmet rule has increased our sales as well as repair orders. Earlier, we used to get only a couple of helmets per day for repairing but now we get at least 20 helmets a day.”
He further said, “People are buying helmets willingly, as they have realised that they protect them from pollution and also ensures safety. In terms of sales, 70 per cent of our new customers are females.”
“We have this store for 25 years but the recent implementation of helmet rule has doubled our sales. There is also a decent rise in repairing orders, as we are getting 25 helmets every day for repair whereas earlier the number was around 10,” said Sahil Sachdev, owner of Sachdev Sports.
