An 80-year-old woman died after being hit by an SUV while crossing the road at Vazhakkulam Junction on Wednesday at 5 a.m.
The deceased was identified as Aisha of Vengalloor in Thodupuzha. She was being taken back to her ancestral home at Vengalloor in an autorickshaw by her daughter and son-in-law with whom she had been staying for a week.
“She was asked to stay inside the autorickshaw while the couple dropped in at a fish stall owned by them in the junction. However, the victim alighted and was trying to follow them when she was hit by the vehicle while crossing the road,” said V. Vinu, sub inspector, Vazhakkulam. Though she was rushed to the Thodupuzha Government Hospital, she died of her injuries.
The police have registered a case.
