An engrossing series in which troubled combat veterans find healing at a shelter for wolves and wolf-dog hybrids in California. The shelter is run by a US Navy veteran and his clinical psychologist wife. The therapeutic effect of working with wolves is enthusiastically attested to by their handful of long-serving helpers – not least an Air Force veteran who describes himself as having previously been an angry, volatile recluse. The series characterises both the wolves and the veterans as hunters tortured by trauma, loss of purpose and unaccustomed confinement. And there are always new ones coming in. Tonight's new faces include a former soldier who lost access to his daughter after a violent incident, and an abused wolf that has been relentlessly used as a puppy mill. Affecting television.
