GREATER NOIDA: Morning fog on Yamuna expressway claimed the life of a young man, his fiancee and her brother as their speeding car rammed a truck from behind due to low visibility on Yamuna expressway near Rabupura in Greater Noida on Tuesday.

The woman and her brother had come from Agra for shopping ahead of her marriage. Her Dadri-based fiance was dropping them back when the accident claimed both their lives.

According to police, the victims have been identified as Ankur Gupta (25), a resident of Dadri town, who was driving his i20 car in which his fiancee Neha Gupta (22), her brother Kartik Gupta and Neha’s sister Deeksha (22) were travelling. According to police, the wedding of Ankur and Neha was scheduled in a few months and they were on a shopping tour. Neha, her brother and sister had come from Agra for shopping in Delhi and Ankur was dropping them back to Agra.

The accident took place around 8am near the zero-point in Rabupura on Tuesday. “We received information from a passerby, who dialed 100, after which a PCR along with an ambulance were immediately sent to the spot. The injured were rushed to Kailash Hospital in Jewar where Ankur, who was at the wheel, was declared dead on arrival along with his fiancee Neha and brother-in-law to be, Kartik. Neha’s sister Deeksha was admitted in the intensive care unit,” said Sunil Kumar Singh, SHO, Rabupura.

Singh said that the car was allegedly speeding at the time of the accident. “Bystanders said the truck was at a speed of nearly 80 km/hour while the victims’ car was over 100 km per hour when it suddenly lost control due to fog and hit the truck from behind,” Singh added.

A spokesperson for Kailash Hospital in Jewar told TOI that the injured woman was discharged on request by the family. “She was admitted in ICU with major fractures in both legs. However, she was out of danger as she had no head injury. Her family in the evening decided to shift her to a hospital close to their residence,” said the spokesperson.

No complaint has been filed against anyone, Singh said. However, the truck was seized from the spot since its driver fled after the accident.
