Toddler drowns in backyard pool in Sydney's west

A two-year-old girl has drowned after she was pulled unconscious from a backyard pool in Sydney's west.

Emergency services were called to a home on Greenbank Drive in Werrington Downs just before 8pm on Wednesday evening and treated the girl at the scene.

She was rushed to Nepean Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The tragic incident comes hours after two children, aged six and four, had to be pulled from a lagoon on the NSW Central Coast.

The four-year-old boy, who was pulled from the water unconscious, was airlifted to hospital from Avoca Beach in a critical condition according to CareFlight just before 6pm on Wednesday.

Police believe the boy was stabilised on scene, and he remains stable at Westmead Children's Hospital.

The six-year-old girl was taken to Gosford Hospital in a stable condition.

Surf Life Savers from the beach assisted with the rescue, with off-duty doctors on scene assisting with treatment.
