NOIDA: Residents of NRI City, a high-rise apartment in Greater Noida, appealed to the district magistrate to intervene and help in conducting the RWA elections in the society so that garbage, electricity and fire-safety maintenance can be resumed.
The maintenance and upkeep of the society has been disrupted for the last three years because of internal problems within the residents following which the existing RWA system has collapsed.
There has been no election in over three years and no one has been made in-charge to maintain fire-safety, water and electricity issues. “The entire apartment complex seems to be falling apart because of a lack of maintenance. We have appealed to the district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar to look into this, and he has assured us that the election will be facilitated according to the society by-laws,” said Dhruv Sawhney, a resident of NRI City.
Residents of NRI City filed a compliant with the SDM last year on the issue. On October 25, the SDM had issued an order stating the RWA election be carried out according to the society’s by-laws. On Tuesday, DM B N Singh assured the residents that an election will be facilitated.
“If an order has been passed, the issue will be resolved according to legal guidelines,” said the DM.
NRI City is a 150-flat gated society and around 90 residents live here. “I am a flat owner at NRI City and was forced to vacate because of the dismal living conditions in the complex. I locked my apartment in 2017 to live with my extended family elsewhere. I will only return once the RWA system is regularized,” Neeraj Sabharwal, an apartment owner, said.
