Pongal special bus reservation counters opened in Chennai

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu transport minister M R Vijayabaskar on Wednesday inaugurated special bus ticket reservation counters at Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu here.
A total of 30 counters have been set up at various boarding points across Chennai to help passengers book their ticket for special buses to be operated during the Pongal eve.
As many as 26 of the se counters will function at CMBT and others at Tambaram, Poonamallee and Madhavaram, according to an official release.
A total of 24,708 special buses would be operated during the Pongal festival to accommodate the additional passenger rush.
Of these, 14,263 special buses will depart from Koyambedu and other boarding points in Chennai, between January 11 and 14.
All the buses leaving Koyambedu will skip Tambaram, Perungaluthur and take Outer Ring Road to reach Vandalur to avoid traffic congestion.
Also, 11,000 buses would be operated between January 17 and 20 to facilitate passengers' return journey, the release added.
