Somappa claimed to have paid ₹2 lakh to get the question paper a day before the exam.

Continuing investigations into the constable recruitment exam question paper leak, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials have found that the kingpin, Shivakumaraiah, was also involved in leaking question papers of the BMTC and KSRTC recruitment exam in June last year, which allegedly helped many beneficiaries to secure various posts.

The racket came to light when the CCB caught Somappa Yamanappa, 34, from Vijayapura, who is at present working as an assistant conductor at Jigani depot of the BMTC.

Somappa claimed to have paid ₹2 lakh to get the question paper a day before the exam.

Somappa told the police that Basappa Bhajantri, employee of Chanakya Career Academy in Vijayapura, introduced him to Shivakumaraiah who offered him the paper for ₹2 lakh and also said he would prepare him a day before the exam.

Somappa agreed to pay up. He, and a few others, were asked to come to a farmhouse in Tumakuru owned by Basavaraju C.T. on June 9. There were 35 people who were given photocopies of the question paper with the key answers, and they practised the whole night.

On June 10, Somappa, along with others, were dropped in a car at the Jayanagar centre in Bengaluru where the exam was held.

Somappa and others passed in first class and he secured the post of assistant conductor at Jigani depot, he claimed.

The information was conveyed to the BMTC based on which N. Nagendra, staff supervisor of BMTC head office Shanthi Nagar, filed a complaint.

Based on the complaint, the Wilson Garden police have charged Somappa, along with Basavaraju C.T., Shivakumaraiah and Basappa Bhajantri for cheating, forgery, and under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The case has been transferred to CCB for further investigations.
