500 judges to attend mediation conference in city

Nagpur: Over 500 judges and 50 lawyers would grace the regional conference on mediation to be organized under the aegis of Maharashtra State Legal Service Authority on January 12.
Titled ‘Mediation: Capacity Building, Issues and challenges’, the event would be inaugurated by chief justice Naresh Patil at 10.25am at a hotel in Ramdaspeth, while senior judges including justices Abhay Oka, SC Dharmadhikari, Bhushan Gavai, RV More and Ravi Deshpande would attend the event.

All principal district judges and judicial officers from Vidarbha region would be a part of the event. There will be three working sessions from 11.40am to 3.50pm where the visitors would share their views and experiences.


Speaking to media, district judge VB Kulkarni said the event would be taking place after two years and discuss a variety of topics related to mediation. “The CJ would make an inaugural address, while other senior judges from principal bench would share their views and also guide the participants. The theme of the conference is to discuss necessity of mediation process in present context. Principal district and sessions’ judge here, Shashikant Savale, and entire team are working hard for success of this mega meet, which was first held in 2013,” he said.


He was accompanied by others judges — Dhanaji Jadhav, GM Nadaf and RK Deshpande.


Secretary of District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Dhanraj Kale, informed that justice Oka would address the gathering on introduction of new mediation scheme for district, taluka and other courts and also deliver valedictory speech. “With a view to encourage mediation activities, the best performing judge, trend judge mediator and referral judges from the Nagpur region would be felicitated by the dignitaries,” he said.
