The woman, a resident of Thilagar Nagar at Angeripalayam, had migrated from Kumbakonam 13 years ago. She and her 52-year-old husband were employed in knitwear industry. The couple has two children.
“After deciding to adopt family planning, I approached a private hospital near TTP Mill Road at Periyar Colony in 2013 to undergo tubectomy. A doctor performed transabdominal tubectomy in July 2013,” said the woman. “But now, to my utter shock, I have become pregnant again. It was confirmed by a doctor, who further found that the tubectomy was a failure. But when we raised the issue with the private hospital, its doctor-cum-owner said the tubectomy was never conducted there and threatened us,” she told TOI.
“We did not maintain all the records of the surgery, but have some prescriptions issued by the hospital. Now I am nine weeks pregnant. My two sons are teenagers. I don’t know what to do.”
“The hospital, after making an error, lied to us,” her husband said. “We have taken steps to fight the case in the court. But we also wanted to register our complaint with the district administration, so that such thing will never happen to others,” he added.
