The KCG College of Technology held a workshop and demo on the fundamentals of the hot air balloon technique on its campus on Tuesday. The workshop was conducted by international pilots who are in Chennai as a part of the Fifth Tamil Nadu International Hot Air Balloon Festival held in the city.

Students clear their doubts on hot air balloon mechanism at the workshop
Chennai:
Amid a fun-filled atmosphere, the pilots helped students understand basics of hot air balloons and listed the external conditions required to keep the balloons afloat. They explained the principle of how warm air expands when heated and how heat is transferred through convection. They also passed down knowledge on how to design and construct a hot air balloon and helped them understand the terms density, buoyancy, temperature, volume, pressure, Celsius and Kelvin.
The workshop was attended by around 1500 students belonging to various schools and colleges in the city. The students also participated in a live discussion with the expert pilots and put forward their queries on the technology to fly hot air balloons.
