VADODARA/ ANAND: Patients suffering from chronic renal failure in remote villages of Panchmahal and Mahisagar districts will be able to undergo dialysis, thanks to help provided by non-resident Gujaratis (NRGs).

A Chicago-based family and their relatives have paid back to their hometown – Sevaliya – in Panchmahal by collecting $ 1 lakh which has been used to set up a dialysis centre at Sonaba Hospital and Sadaba Prasutigruh in the town. The dialysis centre at the hospital which is run by Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad was inaugurated by NRG donor Savitaben Patel and her husband Shantibhai Patel on Monday.

While Savitaben, the main contributor, has donated US $ 51,000 as a tribute to her late father Ravjeebhai Patel, two other donors including her brother Dr Jayantibhai Patel and her nephew Dr Prashant Patel have donated US $ 25,000 and US $ 15,000 respectively.

Interestingly, the hospital at Sevaliya itself had come up with the support of Shantibhai Patel and Jayantibhai Patel. The extended NRG family in 2010 had donated the hospital premises to Karamsad-based Shree Krishna Hospital which is presently running the operations in the rural heartland of Panchmahal.

The new centre will help meet the health care needs of Sevaliya and its nearly villages in Mahisagar, Panchmahal and Kheda districts including towns like Thasra and Mahudha to name a few. Earlier, patients from these belt had to travel nearly 80 to 100 km to undergo treatment at Anand, Karamsad or Nadiad.
