Tiger kills man in Durgapur forest, first in 2019

Chandrapur: A-35-year old man was killed in tiger attack in Durgapur forest under Chandrapur forest range on Wednesday evening. Victim Raju Gujjalwar was a resident of Veer Savarkar Nagar in Chandrapur and had gone to the forest to collect fodder for his cattle. This is first human kill by a tiger in Chandrapur district this year. Predators including tigers and leopards had killed 27 persons in the district last year.

Sources informed that Gujjalwar and his friend Haren Jogdar had gone deep inside the forest allegedly for collecting fodder for cattle at around 3pm. While they were busy cutting grass in compartment number 399, a lurking tiger attacked Gujjalwar and killed him on the spot. Jogdar fled from the spot fearing for his life and informed foresters.


A team of foresters led by RFO Sandeep Thipe rushed to the spot and removed the body for post-mortem after inquest formalities. Forest officials have paid ex gratia aid of Rs10,000 to the kin of victim. Officials have warned people against going into the forest under Chandrapur range citing the presence of a large number of predators there.
