Cape Town – Showmax has released the first trailer for The Girl from St. Agnes and it looks like a creepily, gripping thrill ride.

The series – which is the second original show from the South African streaming service – will be available for subscribers from Thursday, 31 January 2019.

The eight episode series was produced by Harriet Gavshon of Quizzical Pictures’ who drew on her own private school experiences for the show, which has a mostly female crew.

Catharine Cooke - who won Best Director in a TV Drama at the SAFTAs for iNumber Number - co-directed the show with Cindy Lee, who previously worked as the social media director on Netflix's Black Mirror.

The dark drama - which centres on the mysterious death of a girl at a prestigious boarding school - is rare because it was commissioned, produced, written and directed by women.

Filmed in the midlands the show stars Robert Hobbs (District 9), Tyrone Keogh (24 Hours To Live), Tessa Jubber (Wallander), Karl Thaning (Dredd) and Shamilla Miller (Troy: Fall Of A City) among others.

With such an incredible set of people behind and in front of the camera we can’t wait to binge this local production.
