BENGALURU: Some of Bengaluru’s lakes and tanks are dying, but Karnataka government says none of its waterbodies needs rejuvenation.

Under a scheme called repair, renovation and restoration (RRR) of waterbodies, the Union ministry of water resources extends assistance to states for improvement and restoration of waterbodies. The Karnataka government hasn’t sent a single proposal yet.

Minister of state for environment, forest and climate change Mahesh Sharma said this in a statement to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. He was replying to a query from MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar about rejuvenation of lakes and groundwater in Bengaluru. A lake activist slammed the state government for allocating meagre funds for waterbodies.
