Though much to the joy of sports lovers and villagers in Punjab, SAD was suppose to organise World Cup Kabaddi in 2018 winters. But due to some lapses in tie ups with American kabaddi teams, SAD was not able to organise the World Cup Kabaddi last year. However, the Kabaddi lovers will also get a chance to see their favorite kabaddi players and bollywood stars in 2019 WC. As the former deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal exclusively talking to Daily Post revealed, “We will be back with World Cup Kabaddi in 2019 winters as kabaddi is my passion and I want to take Kabaddi to Olympics. As I want to take kabaddi from rural surface to International-level. Either we remain a ruling party or in the opposition, my love and passion for kabaddi will always remain the same. I want to take youth to sports instead of drugs so from this year world cup kabaddi for both men and women will continue.” However talking about the reason of not organising world cup last year, he said, “Due to some technical reasons we were not able to organise World Cup Kabaddi in 2018, though efforts were made for the same, now one should gear up for participating in World Cup Kabaddi 2019. Moreover, Earlier in the Shiromani Akali dal Pol Khol rallies also, Sukhbir Singh Badal made this announcement in 2018. But now he has confirmed its Kabaddi world cup 2019 development exclusively with the Daily Post

Stressing upon insecurities of current Punjab Government over Akali Dal’s successful sports event of World Cup Kabaddi, Badal said, “Congress Government just talk of promoting sports by discontinuing the sports (Kabaddi) in Punjab.” Pointing towards no effort in the development and promotion of sports in Punjab by the Congress, he said, “If the Congress is doing this just for the sake of political reasons then this gesture is not good at all.” Adding more, he said, “The decision of Congress Government to discontinue the World Cup Kabaddi clearly shows that they are not at all concerned to promote famous rural sports of Kabaddi which is now renowned world-wide.” Badal further claimed that he was getting calls from the foreign country teams and clubs regarding why not India is putting any more efforts into the game (kabaddi). “I just told them (foreigners) that their government is not in power anymore and the opposition party is reluctant in promoting such an amazing sport.” It is pertinent to mention here that the first World Cup Kabaddi was organised in 2011 by the Shiromani Akali Dal. It was the mastermind of former deputy chief minister.
