The State Government on Tuesday decided to shut down all commercial shops and establishments located in residential areas without a valid trading licence.
Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister G. Parameshwara on Tuesday held a detailed review meeting with civic agencies of the State and told officials of BDA, Bescom, BBMP, and BWSSB to remove all illegal establishments located on footpaths and in residential areas.
Residents of Indiranagar had complained to the government about illegal bars and restaurants, and the problems caused by them to residents at night.
The Deputy CM took officials to task for providing electricity and water connections to illegal shops and business establishments located in residential areas, and told them to shut down such establishments soon. He said there would be a crackdown on all those who run illegal businesses in basements of houses and apartment complexes.
With petty shops and hotels occupying footpaths, pedestrians have been finding it to difficult to walk. He also told officials to shift beggars at traffic signals to rehabilitation centres with the support of the Social Welfare Department.
