Pongal: Chennai Metro Rail to conduct cultural events

CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will celebrate Pongal by holding cultural events at three underground stations -- Saidapet, Egmore and Thirumangalam -- between 5.30pm and 9pm on January 10, 11 and 12.
The CMRL Metro Pongal Cultural Festival organised along with South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur, will promote Tamil culture and various art forms of south India.

Commuters and others can walk into these stations to watch the performances for free.


Saidapet metro station, on January 10: Events will begin with performance by Andaasi Narayana and his troupe from Telangana performing a tribal dappu dance at 5.30pm . K Jagannathan and his troupe from Thiruvarur will perform rural folk dance at 6.30pm, and T G Raju and his team from Thanjavur will be perform tappattam at 7.30pm.


Egmore metro station, on January 11: Andaasi Narayana and his troupe will perform tribal dappu dance at 5.30 pm. It will be followed by K Jagannathan and his team performing rural folk dance at 6.30pm. T G Raju and his team will perform street theatre at 7.30pm.


Thirumangalam Metro Station, on January 12: Andaasi Narayana and his troupe will perform tribal dappu dance at 5.30pm. It will be followed by Bharatanatyam by Vijayam Karthik and others at 6.30pm. Jagannathan’s rural folk dance will begin at 7.30pm.
