KANPUR: Traffic on the busy Lucknow-Kanpur national highway was severely hit for over 10 hours after a dumper coming from Lucknow collided head on with a gravel-laden truck near Dahi Chowki area of Unnao late Sunday night and the vehicles involved in the mishap remained unattended. Commuters had a harrowing time driving in and out of Lucknow and Kanpur and the traffic was finally restored on Monday afternoon.
“Traffic and civil police officials reached the spot with the measures at around 1 am,” said SP Unnao Harish Kumar. “The jam worsened as many heavy-vehicle drivers tried to overtake each other to get out of the jam,” he added. He said the situation improved by Monday afternoon. “But even then, traffic on the stretch was crawling,” he added.
Police said the mishap left one person dead and two others injured. The deceased has been identified as driver of the dumper, Kalluram (23), a native of Rajasthan.“The truck driver and his attendant, who too suffered injuries, have been identified as Ram Milan (40) and Rahul (28), both natives of Bahraich. They have been admitted to the district hospital in a critical condition,” added police.
