The police detained a Sabarimala-bound woman pilgrim from Sri Lanka at the Nilackal base camp for want of valid travel documents on Monday afternoon.

According to the police, the woman reached Nilackal along with a 70-member team of pilgrims from Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

There were reports that the woman has been detained by the police for not showing her age proof. However, the police dismissed such charges.

Above 50 years

The woman, who appears to be above 50 years of age, claimed that she had been undertaking the Sabarimala pilgrimage for the past three years.

She showed a photograph taken at the Sabarimala Sannidhanam during her previous visit to the police.

She was accompanied by her son.

The woman said her travel details were kept in the safe custody of a relative in Chennai. The woman finally decided to stay back at Nilackal while the remaining team members proceeded to Sabarimala.
