PATNA: Police were yet to arrest the four shooters who had fired at three persons at Pyare Lal ka Bagh near Biscauman Colony under the Alamganj police station area in Patna City on Sunday night. Police, however, arrested one Arjun Singh (60) on Monday for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to kill them.
One of the injured persons, Ajay Mahto (35), later succumbed to bullet injury sustained in his abdomen while Vijay Pandey alias Vijay Yadav (60) and Sachin Kumar (30) were undergoing treatment.
Four unidentified shooters on two bikes had indiscriminately fired at the trio sitting around a bonfire. At least eight empty and one live cartridges of 7.65mm were recovered from the spot. Vijay received two gunshot injuries while the other two sustained one gunshot injury each.
Alamganj SHO Om Prakash said an FIR was lodged on Vijay’s statement in which he made Arjun and his associate Lallu Mahto as prime accused in the case. “Lallu is still evading arrest. Investigation is going on to identify the shooters,” he said.
Prakash said the shootout took place over a land dispute between Vijay and Arjun in Agamkuan area. Police sources said both were land brokers and had picked up dispute over several plots of land a few months back.
SSP Garima Malik formed a special investigation team (SIT) on Monday to nab the other accused persons in the case.
