Series of wind advisories for parts of Western Washington, travel to be difficult

There will be snow and freezing rain in Snoqualmie Pass and heavy snow at Stevens Pass. Coupled with strong winds, travel is expected to be very difficult through the Cascade passes through Thursday morning.

 

 

A flood watch is in effect for the Skokomish River in Mason County from Wednesday evening through Thursday afternoon as a series of frontal systems bring heavy rainfall to the southern slopes of the Olympics.

In the East Puget Sound lowlands through 6 a.m. Wednesday, a wind advisory is in effect for east winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Some affected locations include Enumclaw, Black Diamond, North Bend and Gold Bar.

 

 

 

A wind advisory is in effect for the San Juan Islands and western Skagit and Whatcom counties from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday for southeast winds of 25 to 35 mph, gusting to 50 mph. Some affected locations include Oak Harbor, Bellingham, Friday Harbor and Anacortes.

 

 

 

A wind advisory has been issued for the central Washington coast from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday for southeast winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Affected locations include Westport, Ocean Shores, Hoquiam and Moclips.

 

 

 

North Washington coast will expect east to southeast winds of 25 to 35 mph, gusting to 50 mph through 6 p.m. Tuesday and again from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Neah Bay, Cape Flattery and La Push will be affected.

 

 

 

Winter storm warnings for up to three feet of snow and winds gusting to 40 mph through 6 a.m. Thursday above 4,000 feet are in effect for the Cascades of Lewis, Pierce, Skagit and Whatcom counties. Affected locations include Crystal Mountain Ski Area, White Pass and the Mount Baker Ski Area.

 

 

 

Snoqualmie Pass will witness a combination of snow, freezing rain, rain, and gusty east winds of 30 to 40 mph. Stevens Pass will see a combination of snow and gusty winds of 30 to 40 mph.

 

 

 

The weather is expected to calm down by midday Thursday, followed by a period of drier weather for Western Washington through Saturday and longer.
