GREATER NOIDA: A 27-year-old man was electrocuted on Sunday evening while another man escaped with injuries after a high-tension wire snapped and fell on them at Uncha Amirpur village in the Jarcha area of Greater Noida.
The victim has been identified as Yogesh Chauhan, who was from Johra village of Aligarh. He used to live in a rented accommodation in Uncha Amirpur village and worked as a lineman with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on contract basis.
Police said that around 6pm on Sunday, Chauhan was standing next to an electricity pole, facing a playground, when an 11kV wire snapped and fell on him and on another man. By then, the two men were already taken to Rama Hospital in Pilkhuwa where Yogesh was declared dead on arrival. The other man was discharged after first-aid,” said Prabhat Dixit, SHO, Jarcha police station, adding that no complaint has been filed in the matter.
Meanwhile, a group of villagers, who witnessed the accident, protested against the electricity department and the district administration, and demanded compensation for Chauhan’s family.
Soon after the protest started, senior officials from the electricity department reached the spot and assured the villagers that Rs 5 lakh will be given to the victim’s family. “We have taken the details of the victim and have assured to start the process for relief fund and compensation. The electricity department has promised Rs 5 lakh while we have raised a demand for help from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund,” said Aarti Yada, naib tehsildar at Dadri.
Police said Chauhan is survived by his father, wife, a 3-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son.
