Pirates eager to pile pressure on Wits

2019-01-08 08:19

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates will have a good chance to close the gap on Absa Premiership leaders Wits when they take on struggling Chippa United in Tuesday's clash at Orlando Stadium.

The Buccaneers come into the clash having drawn three and won two of their last five league outings, including a 2-2 draw with Highlands Park last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Chippa appear to be in dire straits having picked up just two points from a possible 15 in their last five.

The Chilli Boys are in second last place and another defeat could potentially see coach Joel Masutha's head roll off the chopping block.

Nonetheless, while the Sea Robbers seem to be clear favourites, coach Milutin Sredojevic insists his side must convert their chances.

He told reporters: "In football if you don't use the chances the football gods are giving you, on the other side they gave to the opponents, who then take the lead."

It appears Chippa are intent on trying to engineer a change in fortunes in the boardroom as former Baroka Chief Executive Officer, Morgan Mammila, joined the club as CEO.

In the contest, central defender Daniel Akpeyi will no doubt be hoping for a first clean sheet since 27 November last year against Maritzburg United.

Meanwhile, former Bucs star Thabo Rakhale could be a thorn in the side of his previous employers.

Marshall Munetsi is available for Pirates having served his two-match ban for a red card in the Telkom Knockout final defeat to Baroka.

Tuesday night's action is set to take place at 19:30.
