New Delhi: The Modi government’s move to set the CBI upon former Uttar Pradesh CM and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has clearly boomeranged as it rather strengthened instead of preventing the emergence of a formidable alliance of SP and Bahujan Samaj Party.
The CBI raids triggered an unusual reactions. While the BSP came out to brief the media in the defence of SP chief for the first time in the recent history, the Congress which has been dumped by both these parties too blasted the Modi government’s politics of vendetta. The medicine that was supposed to disintegrate ended up uniting the elements.
More than what transpired at the meeting between Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati two days ago, BSP leader Satish Misra’s exceptional decision to publicly defend the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister demonstrated the determination to stay together, no matter how much troubles the extraneous factors create.
Mayawati’s confidante not only condemned the CBI action as witch hunt but gave a clean chit to Akhilesh. “How can the chief minister be held responsible if officials violate rule in allotment of mines, he asked and elaborated: “Recently a sting operation showed private secretary of mining minister was taking bribe for allowing illegal acts.”
Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said no government in the history of independent India deployed investigative agencies to manipulate politics. “Every political party joined hands against the Congress and gave ”Indira hatao” slogan. But Indira Gandhi didn”t slap any false case against any opposition leader. Nor did Rajiv Gandhi forced the CBI or Enforcement Directorate to do such a dirty job against any opponent when all the political parties joined hands against him (during Bofors campaign).”
