Mumbai: Director of co-operative bank escapes bullet while fighting off thieves

MUMBAI: A corporator and director of a co-operative bank escaped a firing bid while allegedly fighting off thieves snatching his bag at Dahanu here on Tuesday night. Bhavesh Desai, a corporator with the Dahanu Municipal Council and director of the Dahanu Janata Co-operative Bank was returning home on his two-wheeler when the incident took place.
When he reached Buddhadev Nagar in Dahanu at around 9 pm, two men on a motorbike intercepted his two-wheeler. They threw some chemical into Desai’s eyes and tried to snatch his bag. When he resisted, one of them fired a bullet at Desai. The bullet brushed past him and the thieves fled from the spot.
Desai held on to the bag. He was later taken to Sheetal Hospital .
