Nagpur: The special cell of city police crime branch, dealing with cases of narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS), have arrested Javed Khan alias Javed Baccha and his close aide Arshad Ahmed, an externee, during a raid at Azad Nagar at Motha Tajbagh on Sunday.
They were allegedly caught carrying 59 gm of methodrone compound, popularly known as ‘MD’. The consignment is worth Rs 1.77 lakh in international market.

Javed, known to be close to a gangster, is considered the mastermind behind bringing ‘MD’ drugs from Mumbai to city in bulk, said police. TOI has in the past highlighted the possible involvement of Javed as the key operator dealing in MD in the city. More arrests are likely after the interrogation of Javed and Ahmed.

Special cell in-charge senior PI RD Nikam said the two arrested persons were produced before the court on Tuesday following which they were remanded to police custody for five days.

The latest action was initiated by PI Nikam, PSI Swapnil Wagh and their team after the arrest of Amir Khan and Mohd Waqar from a place near Ganeshpeth bus stop on December 23 following a tip-off.

Police had seized 70gm MD, worth more than Rs 3 lakh from the two apart from three mobile phones. It was during the interrogation of Khan and Waqar that the names of Javed and Ahmed had surfaced.

Last year, the special cell had conducted similar raids on MD dealers in city on two occasions but not much quantity of narcotics could be seized.
