Toddler hit by car escapes with minor injuries

A toddler hit by a car in the Sunshine Coast hinterland looks to have escaped with scratches and bruises.

Emergency services were called to a private property on Old Gympie Road in Beerwah about 11.15am after the one-year-old was struck by what was believed to be a sedan.

Critical care paramedics treated the young boy before rushing him to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

It was initially thought the child had been run over, but after hospital assessment it appeared  the car only bumped him, causing minor injuries, according to police.

The forensic crash unit was investigating but police said the incident was an accident and criminal charges would not be pursued.

The 53-year-old male driver was known to the child, but police did not believe he was a blood relative.
