Daring heist: Shop staff robbed of Rs 1 crore jewellery

COIMBATORE: Police are searching for 10 men who on Monday robbed two employees of a Kerala-based jewellery firm of 350 sovereigns of gold and 243 g of silver in the city.
C R Arjun and T S Wilfred of Kalyan Jewellers at Thrissur, were transporting the jewellery to its Coimbatore branch in an SUV, police sources said. “At KG Chavadi, the gang forced the SUV to stop, attacked the employees and fled with the jewellery,” a police officer said.
The stranded men informed the Coimbatore rural police, who alerted stations in Tirupur, Nilgiris and Erode. Police have collected CCTV footage from the area and formed four special teams to nab the miscreants.
In a statement, Kalyan Jewellers said jewellery worth Rs 98.05lakh was stolen from its vehicle on the way from Thrissur to Coimbatore. Chairman and managing director T S Kalyanaraman said necessary information was provided to police for swift action and recovery of the jewellery.
