Minor creates fake Instagram account of niece after fight
tnn | Jan 9, 2019, 04:00 ISTSurat: Cybercrime cell of city police arrested a 17-year-old girl for allegedly harassing her niece of same age by creating a fake Instagram account of the latter and sharing her private photos. The accused started harassing the victim after they fought with each other over chatting with boyfriends.
Last week, a complaint was lodged by the father of the victim girl at Chowk Bazaar police station. The complaint alleged that an unidentified person had created her Instagram account and shared her personal photos. The cybercrime cell traced the mobile phone from which the social media account was created.
Police nabbed the owner of the mobile phone but were surprised to know that the accused was victim’s aunt. “The accused is a distant aunt of the victim. She created Instagram account out of anger. She wanted to harass the victim through social media,” a police officer said.
The accused had photos of the victim since they are related. After sharing the photos on social media account, the accused sent friend request from the account to friends of the victim. The victim’s friends alerted her about the Instagram account.
“Both knew that they chat online with boys. They used to talk about it among family members. This led to an argument among them and ultimately the accused created a fake account of the victim,” police said.
