Pondicherry University has established an annexe with additional classrooms at the Department of Disaster Management on its Port Blair campus.
A university pressnote said the annexe would cater to students of Ocean Studies and Marine Biology.
Key asset for research
The facility was set up as part of the Government of India’s ongoing investments in infrastructure for academic programmes, especially research. The objective of providing additional new building facilities in the university was to focus on keeping up with the rapid changes in science and research by creating more space for the PG level students and research scholars, the university said.
The facility, established by the Central Public Works Department at an estimated cost of ₹11.67 crore, was opened by Vice-Chancellor Gurmeet Singh.
D. Manikandan, Secretary to the Government, Departments of Higher Education, Technical Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, Port Blair, was present.
R. Mohanraju, head of the Department of Ocean Studies; K. Dharaniraajan, head of the Department of Coastal Department; and principals of all affiliated colleges and heads of the institutions of various Departments of Pondicherry University and representatives from various scientific institutions of Andaman and Nicobar Administration were present.
