A woman died while her husband is undergoing treatment after their two-wheeler collided with a car on Barapullah Flyover while returning home from a marriage function in South East district on Sunday night. After the collision, the woman was found in a drain under the flyover. Police have arrested the driver of the car who is a doctor by profession.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Nisha (30) while her husband has been identified as Sunny. They were returning home while their motorcycle was hit by a Creta car driven by Dr. Madhu Sudan Chaudhary (68).
"We received a call informing us about an accident and as we reached the spot a woman was lying in the drain. She was rescued and sent to hospital by the PCR van where she was declared brought dead," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East).
The police also found a Creta Car and a Hero Honda motorcycle in an accidental condition on the Barapullah Flyover.
"It came to light that Creta car hit the motorcycle and due to the collision, the woman riding pillion on the motorcycle fell off the flyover. During investigation, we found that the Creta car was being driven by Chaudhary. He was returning from his nursing home in West Vinod Nagar to his home. He retired from Indian Air Force in 2000. In 2014, he opened Manglam Hospital, West Vinod Nagar," said Biswal.
Sunny is admitted to AIIMS trauma with injury in head and leg.
"A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code against the driver of the offending vehicle," said Biswal.
Choudhary was arrested and later released on bail. Further investigations in the case are in progress.
The place where the accident took place is a sharp bend. There are no sign boards unlike at other places on the Barapullah Flyover which indicate how and where the road would be turning making it easier for commuters and riders to analyse how road would be turning ahead.
