The construction work on the 1.6 km-long regulator at Kumaramangalam across River Kollidam would commence in May this year, said R Senthilkumar, the Chief Engineer of Public Works Department (Tiruchy Division) in Thanjavur on Monday.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the site, the Chief Engineer said the regulator would be constructed between Kumaramangalam in Nagapattinam and Adhanur in Cuddalore district.
“Once the project is completed, the regulator would support irrigation in around one lakh acres in both Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts. It would also recharge the groundwater in around 20 nearby villages,” he said.
Stating that the Rs 400 crore project, which was announced by the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2014, would be a boon to the farmers, Senthil Kumar said the regulator would divert 6 TMC of water to canals on both the sides.
The 1.6 km-long regulator would be 15 feet wide and have a two-way path for people to cross. “The work, which would commence in the month of May, would be completed in two years,” the Chief Engineer assured. Executive Engineer V Asaithambi, Assistant Executive Engineers S Yogeswaran, A Muthumani and others were present during the inspection.
